Urban Living Council - October 2023
Discussions around current residential market evolution and housing affordability.
On the 25th of October, enthusiasts and practitioners of ESG gathered for ULI Poland ESG Council in Skanska office to explore S from the ESG spectrum.
The co-chairs of the Council – ElĹĽbieta Rotblum and Piotr Sawicki prepared two case studies: Global Expo and FSO on which they showcased that even the most industrially-perceived part of Warsaw can be a source of inspiring and tangible examples of S, but also E and G.
Piotr Sawicki – co-owner of Sawawa urban planning & design office, presented how the plot of FSO can, in the future, become one of the most green settlements in Warsaw where the aspects of community creation, education, social cohesion are to be core to all development there.
During the second presentation, Krzysztof SzczÄ™sny – president of Humanitarian Innovation Group, has grasped the attention of all by showing how he and his team expertly handled the humanitarian situation of a huge influx of Ukrainian citizens to Warsaw. In short, he turned Global Expo into humanitarian hub which, over a year and a half now, has served many functions: housed more than 72000 for short and long stays, has schools, kindergartens, after-school facilities, a canteen with kitchen, therapy rooms, art rooms, a job centre, a legal office,… a hospice…
Krzysztof with his team is also on the brink of creating a new humanitarian and reconstruction hub – and in this project all are welcomed to help.
In short, as it was summarized by Ela Rotblum, the current humanitarian hub is already a great example of community creation, something that Piotr Sawicki also envisions as a great pattern for creating community on the Okam’s plot. It is certain that we all have a lot to learn from one another, and that Council meeting was a great example of that.
