Alfonso Vegara has a PhD in City and Regional Planning and degrees in Architecture, Economics, and Sociology. He was President of ISOCARP, the International Society of City and Regional Planners, which has members in over 70 countries. He is a Fellow and Trustee of the Eisenhower Fellowships, and since 2005, he is Honorary Consul General of Singapore in Madrid. Alfonso Vegara has been lecturing Urbanism at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, Universidad de Navarra, and Universidad CEU San Pablo. He was also a visiting scholar at the School of Design of the University of Pennsylvania and Advisor of ETH Zurich Polytechnic. His ideas and projects have been disseminated through more than 30 books and International Conferences in Europe, The United States, Latin America, Asia, Australia, and Africa. His projects have been awarded prizes by The United Nations, The European Union, The European Council of Spatial Planners, Architects´ Associations, Entrepreneurial Associations, Cities, and National Governments. Among these awards is the “Rey Jaime I “prize, given by the King of Spain to recognize Alfonso Vegara’s contribution to the fields of Urbanism and Sustainability. He has also been awarded in three occasions with the prestigious “European Award of Planning” for his work in Euskal Hiria, The Basque city region and the design of the eco-city of Sarriguren in Navarra. He’s member of the Jury of the “Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize” and current President of the jury at the “European Regional and Urban Planning Awards”. He’s been advisor for more than 15 years to the Government of Singapore, as well as of various cities around the world, including: Yokohama, Mexico DF, Bilbao, Buenos Aires, Kuala Lumpur, Sao Paulo, Casablanca, Moscow and Medellin. Alfonso Vegara is the Founder and Honorary President of Fundacion Metropoli, an international center of excellence dedicated to research, design, and innovation in cities around the world. Fundacion Metropoli has an alliance with Microsoft in order to work in different cities of the world at the intersection between Territory and Technology. In 2016 he ended the direction of the project “Caribe & Santanderes Diamond in Colombia” which has been awarded by the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona as the “Innovative Idea Award of 2015”. The focus of Alfonso Vegara’s work is to promote strategic values of cities and their future opportunities in a complex and interrelated world. His ideas and projects are presented in the books he has written: “Territorios Inteligentes” and the recently “Supercities. The Intelligence of Territory”; this last publication received the Gerd Albers Award for best book of 2016 by ISOCARP.

Since August 15, 2017 Jos Melchers is Director of Area Development at the City Development Department of the Municipality of Rotterdam. In this capacity Jos is responsible for the financial and commercial aspects of the urban area development. Jos obtained a degree in architecture at the Delft University of Technology and has worked in the real estate sector since 1985. Among other things, as managing director at MAB he was in charge of complex multifunctional inner-city projects. From 2016 to 2017 Jos was director of development at MRP Development and partner at OperatieNL. Jos (1958) lives in Sassenheim, is married and has three children.

Giulia is a Senior Landscape Designer with a multi-disciplinary background in urban design, architecture and landscape architecture. She led the proposal for Toyota Woven City, investigating how recent technologies will shape the future of cities, in relation to new forms of mobility, sustainability, ecology and human connectivity. Giulia joined BIG in 2017 as project lead for the design of Islais Hyper-Creek proposal for the Resilient by Design competition, exploring solutions to adapt and protect the Bay Area from rain flooding, rising sea levels, and other environmental risks. Her approach brings focus to urban and natural systems, questioning and rethinking the traditional approach to landscape and city planning. Among her most relevant works, the masterplan for the Coliseum Arena in Oakland and the vision plan for Downtown Brooklyn Public Realm. Prior to BIG, she worked for four years as a Landscape Designer and Urban Planner for the Dutch firm West

Megan Walters is the Global Head of Research of Allianz Real Estate. Based in Singapore, she joined the company in November 2019 and has over 20 years of experience in global real estate. Prior to joining the company, she worked at JLL Asia Pacific where she was a member of the JLL Global Research executive team and held the position of Head of Research Asia-Pacific. Megan has a master‘s degree in Project Management from the University of Reading and holds a PhD in Real Estate Economics from the University of Hong Kong.
