August 26, 2019
The ULI Poland popular series of meetings is back this September, bringing together all people passionate about the evolution of cities and their impact on human well-being. Taking place on 10 September in Warsaw, the upcoming edition of PLACES + SPACES will deal with reviving urban quarters and entire neighbourhoods to offer its residents, business and tourists the best living, working and leisure conditions possible.
Speakers at PLACES + SPACES: “Recreating Neighbourhoods” will include Maria Vassilakou, until recently Vice Mayor of Vienna, a city named as one of the best places to live…and invest in real estate, as confirmed by this year’s “Emerging Trends in Real Estate Europe” report prepared by ULI and PwC. She was responsible for the Vienna’s smart city framework as well as its transformation agenda, including pedestrianization and conversions of brownfields into affordable and family-friendly urban areas.
Speakers will also include Alexandra Notay, Build to Rent Fund Director at PfP Capital, part of Places for People, one of the largest residential real estate companies in the United Kingdom. Alexandra is a recognised specialist in placemaking and sustainable urban development as well as the Executive Director at ULI UK. In 2019, BISNOW Women Leaders named her among the 48 women who will shape the future of UK real estate.
Viggo Haremst, Partner & Design Director at the prestigious studio Henning Larsen Architects A/S, will offer his insight on urban regeneration from an architect’s perspective. Awarded this year’s European Prize for Architecture for advancing the principles of humanism with its projects, his firm has vast experience transforming brownfield sites and creating friendlier suburban neighbourhoods. Its core principle is to use architecture so that it brings neighbours closer. In Poland, the studio is currently working on a development plan for the historic Gdańsk Imperial Shipyard.
Closing the list of PLACES + SPACES speakers is Lars Funding, Chairman, Urban Rigger. This is one of the most original residential concepts in Europe, designed especially for waterfront cities and using floating platforms housing residential buildings and comfortable welfare facilities. The solution has been designed by the contemporary star of architecture Bjarke Ingels.
As always, the expert debates at PLACES + SPACES will be attended by representatives of real-estate developers that actively participate in the transformation of Polish cities. This time, they will be represented by Marc Lebbe, Managing Director, Liebrecht & wooD, a company known for its successful regeneration of Centrum Praskie Koneser in Warsaw, and Nicklas Lindberg, CEO, Echo Investment S.A., the largest Polish real-estate developer.
